Nursing Support

The Nursing Team at Riverside School

Bromley Primary Care Trust (PCT) provides the Nursing Team at Riverside School. We are here to meet the health care needs of our pupils and work closely with school staff, other PCT colleagues such as physiotherapists and speech and language therapists, dieticians, doctors, other agencies and of course pupils and their families.

The Special Schools Nursing Team aims to provide the highest standard of care to pupils and their families. We plan, implement and evaluate care in line with the Bromley PCT's Policies and Procedures. We provide training to education staff so that they are competent and confident to carry out specific health care interventions for individual pupils (with consent from their parent/carer). In this way, together, we endeavour to enable pupils to access the curriculum in the fullest way within a safe, positive and happy environment.

The team comprises of Sue Holloway, Marianne Phillips, Julia Bartlett and Sarah Fisher. (School Support Nurses). We also have Wendy Pitchford and Helen Boreland (Childrens Community Care Assistants). This seems a large number but most staff work part time.

Advice and Support for Pupils, Parents and Carers

We try to communicate effectively in a variety of ways with pupils and their families. The School Nursing Team is able to give general advice and support on many issues

such as immunisations, tube feeding, epilepsy, healthy eating, toilet training and assessment of continence needs. We also offer training to parents and carers regarding the emergency administration of medication eg rectal Diazepam, buccal Midazolam and Epipens.

We can provide information about the range of services available to pupils and their families. We may not always know the answer to questions you may have, but will do our best to put you in contact with someone who does. We can make referrals to many of the services and organisations that exist in Bromley.

Contacting the Nursing Team

The School Nurses can be contacted between 9am and 3.30pm to discuss any health issues or other concerns.

We have an ‘open door' policy so pupils, parents and carers are welcome to pop in at any time. As it is busy in our room, we have the opportunity to use an alternative room for a more confidential conversation.

Our separate phone line is - 01689 879197

We have an answer phone so do leave a message and we will get back to you alternatively you can e-mail us. As we work part time it may be helpful to e-mail both of us on the following:
