Managing Change

  1. Continuing curriculum development to respond to the needs of the most severely disabled children (without losing skills of teaching the more able),

  2. Auditing staff strengths, investing in continuing professional development,

  3. Revisiting the concept of education for such vulnerable children;

  • education is far more than teaching and learning;

  • it's also about stimulating and providing meaningful experiences, raising quality of life, maintaining dignity in the face of life shortening conditions,

  • care, therapy (including alternative and complimentary approaches) become more of a central part of the curriculum.

     4.  Encouraging greater multi-disciplinary working, e.g. between teachers, therapists, nurses, counsellors, parents etc.

     5.  Supporting parents and carers by extended school initiatives.
